What's up with Iran?

Hey Folks,

So Iran is not cooperating with the U.S. Shocking isn't it?

I mean first G.W. picks a fight with them over the whole Iraq thing. They are just going along with their own freakishly conservative business and all the sudden they flip on CNN and hear (translated from English) that they are part of some "axis of evil" with Iraq and N. Korea. This must be pretty confusing because they have a pretty hateful history with Iraq and they don't even speak Korean.

So anyway this axis of evil that they supposedly belong to is under attack starting with Iraq, but they are smart enough to figure out they are likely to be next on America's march towards world colonization so what do they do? They start building the trump card of national defenses, nuclear power.

Well a few years later, Iraq is in shambles, America has done about as much damage as they can there and some how a nation with one of the highest literacy rates in the world has a complete brain fart and reelected King George to a second term (must have been the early effects of no-child left behind, leaving everyone but the super rich behind). All of the sudden, the level headed Colin Powell is no longer there to function as a voice of reason, Condi Rice is on a mission to prove her gumption and N. Korea is just a little too far away. I mean they entire U.S. army is right next door, why not take on Iran.

What's a secretary-of-state to do when she wants to drum up support for a war? Why not stick with what you know works for you? I mean the public was gullible enough to vote you back into office, why not stick to the weapons of mass destruction argument? Never mind that they didn't even have nuclear power until you threatened them in the first place. Never mind the fact that Iran is still years away from using the nuclear power in a weapon. Never mind that America has both nuclear power and nuclear weapons that we wouldn't be willing to give uo for anything. I guess what's good for the goose is not good for the gander in this case.

So, just to be able to say we have offered every diplomatic solution, we offer Iran a really bogus deal, say "U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Washington would allow Iran to begin talks on joining the World Trade Organization (WTO) and would consider letting it buy civilian airline parts if it ceased all activities that could produce fuel for nuclear power plants or atomic weapons." (MSNBC 12 March 2005).

Now I should mentioned here that every nation has the right to join the WTO and Iran thinks that the commercial airline sanction are wrong anyway. So what do you think they said when American tried to offer these things as trade for Iran stopping ALL nuclear activities (even the ones that are used to provide electricity).

"Correcting some (previous) errors and lifting some restrictions imposed on Iran without reason will not stop Iran from acquiring its legitimate rights,” said Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi. He then added that "entering the WTO is a clear right of all countries." Then as a way of trying to be nice about things (remember they don't want a war) they did offer to make "objective guarantees" such as allowing U.N. Inspectors to make full and intrusive inspections of all of Iraq nuclear plants.

America completely ignores the second part of the statement and reacts with feigned outrage. "How dare they not take our deal?" Lets be honest here, we never expected them to. It was a crappy deal, and we wanted them to turn is down. If they had taken it we would have to come up with a new reason to bomb them and since this administration seriously lacks any creativity I am sure they'd much rather stick to the weapons of mass destruction argument or some variation of it.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm no fan of Iran, I hate the way they treat women and gays. I hate that they persecute religious dissenters, I hate a lot of things about them really, plus I hear it is oppressively hot and very sandy. B ut wait a minute don't they have a lot of oil under that sand? With gas at over $2 a gallon at the pump, it might make my life cheaper if we just bomb the hell out of them. I am sure that thought hasn't escaped our Texas oil man of a president. But does any of this have anything to do with the nuclear power running their cities? Or the nuclear weapons they may be trying to build since they are being threatened by a really big bully?

You tell me.

Rachild
